The Birds of Shropshire

Shropshire Ornithological Society

The product of county-wide fieldwork in 2007–2011 for the National Atlas (Balmer et al. 2013), a team of species and topic authors with Leo Smith as the lead author and a long gestation period spanning more than six years. The book iwas published in December 2019.

Histo (the website The Historical Ornithology of Shropshire, see Tucker 2012) was used extensively in compiling the early histories of individual species and was the basis of a section about the history of ornithology in the county, written by this author. Thirty-two species accounts, largely of rarer species with only old records, but including for example Rook and Black Grouse, have been written by JT.

The Shropshire Migrant Arrival Database (SMAD), see Tucker 2016, was the basis of a chapter written jointly with John Arnfield as first author.
