Tucker, J. & Wright, C. (2009) The House Martin colony on Atcham Bridges Shropshire Bird Report 2009: 50:15–21 |
The one-time colony of House Martins on the old bridge over the River Severn at Atcham may at one time (the 1960s) have been the largest in the country. The paper traces what appear to be three phases of the colony’s decline and recovery, each time to reduced levels, and draws parallels with a similar situation at colonies in Oxfordshire. A handful of nests may remain annually. Co-authored with the late Colin Wright (1938–2015), an ex President of the SOS, ex colleague at SWT and great personal friend. Besides making some of the earliest records used in the paper he created the graphs. |
